& Stories on the boat

Explore culture & nature

Our B&B is in an ideal location, we are only 10 minutes by boat from St Mark’s Square and only 5 minutes’ walk from the beach.

Our house is situated exactly in the Centre of Lido, only 3 minutes’ walk from Piazzale S. Maria Elisabetta where all water services: water-busses; taxis & ferryboats arrive from & leave to Venice & the mainland.

Lido di Venezia – The Beach of Venice. Its position in the Lagoon makes Lido an excellent choice of stay for its proximity to Venice.

In front of our house is the Venice lagoon (with a view of St Mark’s Square), and at the end of the street is the Adriatic Sea (with a wonderful beach).

The Lido is a romantic island with a complete infrastructure and almost all leisure activities. Independent of the Italian beach life in summer, the Lido offers a relaxing balance to the (tourist overcrowded) city of Venice.

After visiting museums & exhibitions, on the Lido you can take a long walk along the lagoon or the sea, go jogging or swimming, rent bicycles, go golfing, horseback riding, sailing… or just sit by the water and enjoy the peace and quiet. And all this at only 10 minutes from the city of Venice.

If you want to combine culture with nature, the Lido is the place to be.

From S. Maria Elisabetta (island’s Centre) transport can be taken to all parts of the lagoon: Saint Marks square 10 minutes; Santa Lucia train station 35 minutes; Marco Polo Airport 50 minutes; the islands of Murano, Burano, Torcello….)

We are also only 5 minutes’ walk from the beach & less than 5 minutes’ drive from the car ferry dock, there is also free parking in the close proximity of our street for guests arriving by car.

The Lido is a long and straight island very near the city, facing historic Venice with a terrific view over the lagoon on one side and the open seaside on the other (“…between seaside and lagoon…”).

It’s a beautiful island, well-known as a seaside resort, with its fantastic beach and a romantic promenade along the lagoon.

The island of Lido faces east onto the Adriatic Sea and west overlooking picturesque Venice & its Lagoon. It is a long thin strip of sand forming a barrier between the sea & the lagoon, for centuries protecting Venice from the dangers of the sea & potential attacks from enemies.

Originally Lido was used as a military outpost or a religious retreat housing a convent & an antique Jewish cemetery but the island was mostly uninhabited. After the completion of the Railway Bridge connecting Venice to the mainland in 1846, Venice under the domain of the Austro-Hungarian Empire created the Vienna Venice railway line .

Lido, developing in the early 1900s soon became an exclusive seaside resort for nobility and middle European bourgeois.

Not much has changed today, the island is still characterized by tranquility with its long stretches of beach & romantic sunset walks along the promenade overlooking Venice.

Lido offers many attractions including fashionable shops, historic hotels, lovely liberty villas, a beautiful golf course, a small aero club, the historical township of Malamocco & the famous “Bains” beach: scene of Thomas Manns “A Death in Venice” later made into a movie by Luchino Visconti.Lido also houses a number of cultural events, business conventions & the famous International Film Festival held every year in September.
